Registered Canadian charity since 2003 · Serving families nationwide

Recovery shouldn’t depend on a bank balance.

We help people who are ready to change their lives — but can’t afford the treatment that would get them there. Your gift becomes a bed, a counsellor, a safe place to begin again.

The need

Addiction is not a
lack of willpower.
It’s a lack of access.

In Canada, publicly funded treatment is scarce and wait lists are long. Private residential programs can cost tens of thousands of dollars — putting recovery out of reach for exactly the people who need it most.

Nobody chooses addiction. But everybody deserves a way out of it.

Our mission

We exist for the moment someone says “I need help.”

Valiant Charitable Society is a charity dedicated to the success of individuals recovering from substance use and mental health challenges. We raise funds so that the answer to “I need help” is never “I can’t afford it.”

We work alongside treatment providers and families to remove the financial barrier between a person and their recovery — covering the cost of care, supporting the people who love them, and staying present through the fragile first year.

  • Financial assistance for residential and outpatient treatment
  • Support for families carrying the cost of a loved one’s care
  • Practical help with the first year of recovery — housing, transport, aftercare

What we fund

Three ways a donation becomes a recovery

Every gift is directed to one of three areas — and reported on annually.

Treatment bursaries

Direct funding toward detox, residential treatment and counselling for people who have been assessed and are ready to begin — but cannot pay.

Paid directly to the treatment provider

Family & aftercare

Travel to treatment, childcare while a parent is away, family counselling, and the practical support that keeps recovery steady in the first year.

Delivered with partner agencies

Prevention & education

Community education that reduces stigma, helps families recognise the signs early, and points people to help before a crisis.

Free to schools and community groups

How it works

Simple, accountable,
and led by people who care.

  1. 01

    Someone reaches out

A person, a parent, or a partner contacts us — often at the hardest moment of their life.

  2. 02

    We assess the need

We confirm the person is clinically ready for treatment and that no other funding is available.

  3. 03

    Your gift is released

Funds are paid directly to the treatment provider, so you always know where your money went.

  4. 04

    We stay in contact

Follow-up through early recovery, with aftercare support when it’s needed most.

Questions

Good to know

Is my donation tax-deductible?

Yes. Valiant Charitable Society is a registered Canadian charity and issues official tax receipts for all eligible donations. Please include your full name and mailing address with your gift.

How do you decide who receives support?

Applications are reviewed individually. We look at clinical readiness for treatment, financial need, and whether any other funding — insurance, provincial programs, family resources — is available. Support is never conditional on anything other than need.

Does my money go to treatment, or to administration?

Gifts are directed to recovery support. A small share covers the cost of receipts, banking and audit, and our annual report shows the exact split.

Can I choose what my donation supports?

Yes. You can designate your gift to treatment bursaries, family and aftercare support, or prevention and education — and we will honour that restriction.

Can I give monthly?

Monthly gifts are the most useful kind of support because they let us commit to a person’s full course of treatment. You can change or cancel at any time with one email.

Is my information kept private?

Always. We never sell, rent or trade donor information, and we only contact you as often as you’ve asked us to.

Somewhere today, someone is ready to change. The only thing standing in the way is money.

You can be the reason they get the chance.
